The Port Marine Safety Code (PMSC) is the national standard for every aspect of port marine safety. A central requirement of the Code is that risk management processes are used to inform the development of a marine safety management system (MSMS).
The Code recommends the appointment of a Designated Person (DP) to provide independent assurance that the MSMS is working effectively and is compliant with the Code.
The Littlehampton Harbour Board appointed ABPmer as its Designated Person. Littlehampton Harbour is a Trust Port and the Statutory Authority for the harbour approaches and River Arun, as far as Old Town Bridge in Arundel. The harbour is a busy yacht and recreational port, with an active commercial and sports fishing fleet. It is also used by larger sea going shipping for the import of bulk material.
ABPmer carries out compliance audits of Littlehampton’s marine risk assessments, policies, plans and procedures, to confirm that their MSMS is being effectively applied.
Our experienced Designated Persons provide independent assurance of marine safety management systems and impartial advice on matters of safety. Learn more about our DP services.
