Shipping and logistics company DFDS proposed the use of new roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) ships to carry wheeled cargo in the Port of Immingham.
Associated British Ports commissioned ABPmer to assess whether the new vessels using the berth could be moored safely in a ship-to ship-configuration with the existing bollard locations. We used available metocean conditions to assess the maximum environmental conditions in which the vessels will remain alongside.
The reported outputs included a mooring plan showing the use of bollards for each vessel and the worst credible conditions for this type of vessel at this berth. The worst credible scenario included state of tide, wind direction and loaded condition of the vessel.
Our specialists help ports prevent bollard failure and vessel breakaway through the use of specialist mooring analysis software. Learn more about our mooring assessment services.
